Takeo Province is one of the 25 provinces (including Phnom Penh Municipality) in the Kingdom of Cambodia. This province is located in the south of Phnom Penh Municipality. Takeo borders Kampot to the west, Kampong Speu to the northwest and Kandal to the north and east. Its southern boundary is the international border with Vietnam. The province consists of the typical plain wet area, covering rice fields and other agricultural plantations.
Known as “the cradle of Cambodian civilization,” Takeo is home to many pre-Angkorian sites from between the fifth and eighth centuries. It is suspected that the center of the Funan Empire was located in Takeo between the first and sixth centuries. Eccentric wildlife, epic natural scenery, and some of the oldest ruins in Cambodia can be found in Takeo.
The territory of Takeo province is divided into 10 districts. In Takeo province, there are big 6 districts which have 11 to 15 communes for each and small 4 districts have only 3 to 6 communes respectively. See More
